Song Peoples Sessions Desert Harmony Festival concert

  Barkly Regional Arts and the Winnanjjikari Music Centre present the Song Peoples Sessions with Warren H Williams and the Warumungu Song-men – performing songs from the new CD Winanjjara and Shellie Morris and the Yanyuwa Song-women – performing songs from the upcoming CD Ngambala-wiji li-wunungu Share the extraordinary journeys of Warren H Williams’ and Shellie Morris’ return to the country of their grandmothers. Both Shellie and Warren collaborated with senior song people to record new material in their respective grandmother’s languages (Warumungu and Yanyuwa) . The Song People Sessions celebrates song as the essence of Indigenous knowledge, language and culture. In the words of the senior song-people and keepers of Indigenous knowledge, ‘The song comes first! It’s in everything and connects all people with their country. Our history is in those songs. Without the songs, you’ve got nothing!’

On Saturday 3rd September Artback NT: Arts Development and Touring are presenting the 2011 DanceSite event, Wurrpujintta Anyul Warlunjanjjiki – Coming Together to Dance; a showcase of Central Australian Indigenous Traditional dance, at Purkiss Reserve in Tennant Creek as a part of Barkly Regional Arts’ Desert Harmony Festival 2011 – Anyinginyi Manu.

Bigger and better than previous years, DanceSite 2011 - Wurrpujintta Anyul Warlunjanjjiki will present traditional cultural performances by Indigenous dance groups from across the Barkly and other regions in Central Australia to a cross cultural audience. Special guests this year are the Red Flag Dancers from Numbulwar and the Mornington Island Dancers, who have performed at Garma and the Dreaming Festival in Queensland as well as overseas.
